Do the Lips put on the same type of big show production when they play festivals too? Or just when they are headlining.

You will never be disappointed when you see the Lips... I can guarantee that! Speaking of festivals and such (from Pithfork):

This summer, two of indie rock’s most beloved elder statesmen will team up for ten dates amongst all the festivals and young whippersnappers criss-crossing the country. Psych-pop juggernauts the Flaming Lips and noise pioneers Sonic Youth’s time together begins with the Kuyahoga festival in Ohio and continues through Lollapalooza and a whole bunch of state fairs. Getcha corn dogs, funnel cake, and art rock heyah!

The new dates are tacked on to the tail ends of each band’s their respective American treks. Sonic Youth have also added few dates to beef up their schedule, as well as a performance on David Letterman on June 12.

So, I finally got to see them!!! This is from my blog about them.

The concert was AMAZING! The Magic Numbers weren't really my cup of tea. Sonic Youth was pretty good, as was Ween, but really my only interest was The Flaming Lips. Dont' get me wrong, I like Sonic Youth and Ween, but they don't put on a real spectacular show. I would have rather listened to their CDs and forego the crowd. Although Ween did have the smoke show going non-stop (kinda cool, but got old).

As for the Lips theatrics...WOW! My only dissapointment was that Wayne did not journey over us when he was in the "hamster" bubble. But, we were on the far side of the crowd with only a few rows of people beside us, so I didn't blame him. They had the big video screen, which is pretty much common now, but none of the other bands had one. They had dancers from the audience (how I wish one of them was me), sexy female aliens on one side and Santas on the other. Huge balloons kept coming from what seemed like nowhere, I mean A LOT of huge ballons, and even more confetti! Almost a constant stream of confetti. What a presence these guys have. Wayne makes you feel like he's your best friend. A real down to earth guy. The music was spectacular, but I knew that already! The Yeah Yeah Yeah song was the funnest. It wasn't one of my favorite songs before, but is now. The whole audience screamed their hearts out in a "bombastic" (Wayne used this word and I love it) roar. They brought out the giant hands for Do You Realize. That was hilarious. The bassist wore the hands that were probably twice the size of him, and hugged Wayne making him basically dissapear. I saved a handful of confetti, but didn't get my hands on a balloon. Oh well, I plan on seeing them ANYTIME they come near, and can stock up then!

I must say, if you EVER have a chance to see these guys, DO IT or you'll miss out on one of the best shows ever!
